You Know the Heart of the Stranger: A Passover Collage workshop
with Sheridan Gold and Sally Churgel
“I have been a stranger in a strange land" – Exodus 2:22
In this workshop, we'll explore feelings of estrangement—from ourselves, our families, or our communities—through hands-on collage making. Each participant will create two collage cards: one reflecting a place of estrangement, the other a resource that helps you feel seen and supported.
Through this creative process and group reflection, we'll uncover what it means to belong, both to ourselves and to others. You'll leave with your cards as personal touchstones, a deeper sense of your own inner home, and a renewed appreciation for the shared human need for connection and recognition.
Here's what you will need:
• Two 5 x 8 inch cards made of cardboard or thick paper
• Scissors
• Glue stick or glue
• Journal or notepaper
• Pen
• A few magazines, old calendars, books you are willing to cut up.
• Print images: Feel free to go online before or during class and print out images for the two themes we will use. The first will be estrangement (Latin for "treat as a stranger") separation, alienation, exile, and/or disengagement. The second will reflect liberation, freedom, belonging, being witnessed, held or seen. Don’t worry if you aren’t clear. Images that call out to you “for some reason,” may be perfect.
