Many people love participating in heart-opening Jewish ritual at Ner Shalom. But what are the elements of Jewish ritual and practice that enrich your life when you’re not in-house or online with us?

In the coming Hebrew year, we are encouraging all Ner Shalomers to adopt a new Jewish practice that is not already something that they do. In this time when it is complicated to be a Jew, how can rooting in a “you-friendly” piece of our tradition help give shape, substance, and ancestral connection to your Judaism and your life?

Join Rabbi Irwin and Ner Shalom elder Gesher Calmenson to explore some of the wonderful daily and weekly practices that are at our fingertips. They might range from mindfulness practices like morning blessings or bedtime Shema; to body awareness, such as mindful eating or the bathroom blessing; to sanctification of time, such as through lighting Shabbat candles and making a place for Shabbat rest.

Rabbi Irwin and Gesher will unpack some of these possibilities and there will be time to discuss in small groups how a new Jewish practice might fit into your life. And then maybe you might commit to trying it out in the new year! We will help by providing learning opportunities, print materials, and even some mentorship!
