Rooting More Deeply: A Collage Workshop

Led by Sheridan Gold and Sally Churgel

Sunday, September 28th 10:30 aM – 1:30 pM

In person and on Zoom

In between the High Holy Days, Sally Churgel and Sheridan Gold will be offering an opportunity for a deeper connection to this year’s theme at Congregation Ner Shalom, “Planted like a Tree Beside Divided Waters.”

This collage process invites you to play with images, opening the door to insights that words or prayer alone might not reveal. You will create two small collages—one Challenge Card, exploring how we navigate inner conflicts or divisions within ourselves and the world, and one Resource Card, discovering the inner strength that helps us stand tall and blossom, like a deeply rooted tree.

The creative imagining of this workshop supports you to nourish your soul in a surprising and elegant manner. Carl Jung noted that it was only by first taking a thing apart, getting to know these parts intimately, and then letting the parts come back together that transformation occurs. In this way, a new and more precious element is created.

Join us, at Congregation Ner Shalom or on zoom, for a morning of insight about your strengths, forgotten or unacknowledged, or ways you might want to practice rooting deeper.

If you are joining us in person, please bring a lunch or snack, as well as a journal if you keep one. For those joining us on Zoom, you will need the following supplies on hand. Supplies will be provided for those attending in person:

  • A few magazines, old calendars, books you are willing to cut up

  • Print images: You may want to go online and print out images that seem to suggest those themes. The images will be based on the two cards we described in the description. Don’t worry if you aren’t clear. Images that call out to you “for some reason,” may be perfect.

  • Several 5 x 8 inch cards or thick paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue stick or glue

  • Journal or notepaper

  • Pen

Sheridan Gold, musician and artist, has been a member of Congregation Ner Shalom for over 10 years. As a collage artist, she loves helping people uncover their hidden selves. As a musician, she enjoys playing healing music to help people go deep into their healing process. Sheridan is thrilled to be teaching this class with Sally to prepare for the High Holy Days.

Sally Churgel is a Ner Shalom High Holy Day leader, poet laureate from 2009-2019, past president and member for 25 years. Sally is a healer/intuitive (her business is Call to Joy), transformation guide and Argentine tango dancer. She has been making collages for 25 years and loves working with Sheridan to bring this transformative process to the Ner Shalom community.
