Social Action

Congregation Ner Shalom has taken an active role in interfaith organizing in support and defense of the American Muslim community through its leadership in the "Of One Soul" campaign of the Interfaith Council of Sonoma County. Of One Soul's launch event in March of 2016 was offered to a standing-room only crowd at Ner Shalom.

Ner Shalom has responded to the difficult political climate by offering special ritual for its membership, for instance on the day following the presidential election; offering the Ner Shalom "Oasis" live-stream as a means of supporting our community and helping keep us all grounded; and by launching the Ner Shalom Social Justice Café, where people gather, share music and poetry and stories, and discuss the social change work that they are involved in.

Ner Shalom holds an annual collection of food goods for Redwood Empire Food Bank. In 2016 we collected warm clothes to send to the water protectors at Standing Rock. And in 2017 we hosted Ali Abu Awwad, an important figure in the Palestinian Non-Violence Movement.
