Volunteer Opportunities
JFCS Rides: Be the Wheels
Got wheels? A kind heart? All it takes to make a big difference in someone’s life is about four hours a month. As a Be the Wheels volunteer, you’ll make a frail senior’s life a lot more manageable, driving to medical appointments, the grocery store and other destinations they can’t reach on their own anymore. Our network of drivers needs you! You can drive your car, or the JFCS van (training provided). Please contact Vicki Wedegaertner at 707-303-1532 or vickiw@jfcs.org.
Senior Companionship Program
Form a new friendship with a senior who is eagerly awaiting your visit. All it takes is one hour per week for conversation, short walks, or other enjoyable activities. Not only will it brighten the senior’s life, it will make you feel great too! Training and support provided. Please contact Vicki Wedegaertner at 707-303-1532 or vickiw@jfcs.org.

Teens to serve on YouthFirst - New Youth Leadership Council
JFCS announces the launch of YouthFirst programs in Sonoma County. Starting in the fall, a new Youth Leadership Council will be formed combining the efforts of JFCS and Chaverim. Many teens today feel unheard or misunderstood, overwhelmed with managing expectations, and stressed out in making decisions that can affect their future. JFCS and Chaverim have joined together to help bring out the voices of our local youth. Our first goal is to identify a limited number of Jewish teens to form a Teen Leadership Council. Those who participate will learn personal leadership skills, develop a teen survey, and help identify the needs of our local Jewish teens. The results of the survey will be used to develop a plan to support local youth and to find funding to implement the plan. The program will start in October 2009, right after the High Holidays. Space will be limited. If you are interested in receiving further information contact Diana Klein at dianak@jfcs.org.
Financial Aid
Family Loan Program
Unexpected expenses can threaten a working family’s hard-won economic stability. The Family Loan Program assists applicants in creating a realistic budget, understanding and improving their credit, ordering their own personal credit report, and provides low-interest bank loans to qualified working parents with children. Loans can be used for transportation, housing or other one-time needs when a family is “caught short” and willing to work to get back on track. Please contact Sara Downing at 707-303-1536 or sarad@jfcs.org.
