Karuna
(Karen) Gerstein
Rev. Karuna Gerstein lives in Cotati with her wonderful husband,
Loren, and the cutest dog in the world, Minke.
Karuna is a Spiritual Director, ordained Interfaith Minister, death
and dying counselor, elder advocate, massage therapist, poet and
lover of all beings. She was born Catholic, chose Judaism and is
called to Interfaith Ministry. She is passionate about building
bridges, focusing on what connects us instead of what divides us.
She believes in the importance of ritual and spiritual practice
in life, and is committed to cultivating the inner wisdom of each
of us.
Faith is not clinging to a shrine, but an endless pilgrimage of
the heart.
- Abraham Joshua Heschel
Roesia
Gerstein
Roesia is delighted to be a Bat Mitzvah with her sister-in-law,
Karuna, wife of her brother, Loren. Roesia, a Berkeley resident,
has made the weekly trip to study with her Remitzvah buddies during
the last four months. Her Berkeley life is daily enriched, by her
friends and family as she explores her artwork, her organizational

activities in the Bay Area.

Ellyn
Lazar
I was born in Los Angeles and I grew up in Orange County, CA. I
became an attorney in 1980. I have practiced Bankruptcy Law exclusively
since 1992. My husband, Wayne and I moved to Sonoma County in March
1987. We have one daughter, Michelle, one pound puppy poodle, Pierre,
and one goldfish, Goldiwhite. I have been an active Girl Scout volunteer
for seven years. I love step aerobics and I am a big fan of peanut
butter. I never had a Bat Mitzvah when I was 13. I always wanted
to learn to read Hebrew. The Remitzvah class has enriched my life.
Anita
Levin
Anita Levin lives in Rohnert Park with her dog Monet. She has three
children and is a grandmother. Her mother lives in Novato.
Anita teaches for the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District.
She is an artist and has exhibited her art work in galleries throughout
Illinois, Florida and California. For the past 8 years Anita has
volunteered her time to serve on the Cultural Arts Commission for
the City or Rohnert Park as a Commissioner.
Karen
Mitchell
My name is Karen Mitchell. I live in Santa Rosa with my sweet,
almost 7-year-old son Sam. We have lots of fun playing baseball,
frisbee and board games together. I work for a company that teaches
reading programs nationwide during the week and have been teaching
at Dor Hadash School for the last ten years. I am also the Music
Director there. Thanks to my cohorts in the Re-Mitzvah class and
Rebbe Elisheva for all of their support, humor and general all around
fabulousness. This process has been such a blessing to me!
Jordan Schoolcraft
Hi
my name is Jordan David Schoolcraft. I'm 14 years old and I go to
Rancho Cotati High School. I'm on the high school freshman basketball
team and I play power forward. My main interests are listening to
music, watching movies, playing basketball, and hanging out with
friends. About 4 times a year, my mom and I travel to Los Angeles
to visit my Uncle Scott and my cousins and friends. One day I plan
to go to college, but for now I plan to get through and graduate
high school.
