bnai mitzvah

Dylan Field - April 2, 2005

Hi, my name is Dylan Field and I am currently preparing for my Bar Mitzvah on April 2nd.

For my Tikkun Olam project I tutored a younger child in reading and math during the entirety of last summer. I also taught a select group of 5th graders about the natural world at Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen where I am a junior docent.

Right now I am finishing up my last year at Creekside Middle School in Rohnert Park and am planning to attend Technology High in the fall. I love to learn and although I like all my subjects (except spelling) my favorites are English and History. Along with wrestling, I am also in two clubs at my school- Math Counts and Robotics Club. Math Counts is a nationwide middle school math program designed to (as the name implies) show that "math counts." This year our school won second in the team competition, a challenge where the four best students in the club do ten extremely hard problems in twenty minutes. In fact, you might have even seen a recent photograph of the team in the Community Voice.

Robotics club, which I am Team Captain of, is a program sponsored primarily by the North Bay Technology Round Table. In the club we build robots out of various Lego pieces in order to complete a specific task. We then program the robots and test them. Last year, my team won first place when facing over thirty other teams from all around Sonoma County. Hopefully this year we will also be victorious.

Adding to the humanities, math and engineering I have other interests as well. These include acting, singing, athletics, politics and psychology along with other various hobbies. I live with my Mom (Beth), Dad (Andy), Dog (Zoey, also referred to as "Da Zoester") and Cat (Hermi, short for Hermione) in Penngrove.

Hope to see you at my Bar Mitzvah!
